Earth Week started in our very own backyard as the brainchild of Wisconsin Senator Gaylord Nelson in 1970, with rallies being held on April 22nd in cities across the United States…and it was a success from the beginning! According to, since its inception over 40 years ago, the Earth Week movement has been ignited, with more than 1 billion people in 174 countries (not to mention 17,000 organizations worldwide) involved in green and sustainability activities. To put that in perspective, Earth Week is “the largest secular civic event in the world.”

Empowering Community Sustainability, One Town at a Time

As a champion of sustainability, Go Buy Local partners with like-minded businesses and organizations that support earth-friendly buy local initiatives. We provide our partners with “green” services and online platforms that empower them with a means to promote their message and why buying local is so important to community health.

Make a Local Difference for This Planet We All Call Home!

An entire week of environmental awareness is awesome, but what about making a positive, sustainable impact all year around? Believe or not, it doesn’t take much to not only contribute to making a greener planet, but to also enhance community sustainability.

For starters, buying local is good for the environment! With Go Buy Local, consumers can connect with local businesses, keeping commerce in your town, which leads to a smaller carbon footprint. And, along with doing your part shopping local, those businesses also make more locally-sourced purchases, meaning they also make less of a mark on the environment.
